Since 2019, customer-pay labor rates are up about 50%, technician pay is up closer to 25–30%, and fixed ops is covering more dealership overhead than it did before the pandemic... So dealerships found a way to charge substantially more for the same hour of technician labor while technician compensation grew much more slowly.
And then the industry asks why there’s a technician shortage.
