I was flatrate a couple of years ago but it always really bugged me that, parts, sales and the service advisors could really screw me out of money. Parts screwing up the quotes. Sales getting the customer into a new car while im in the middle of the repair. And service advisors selling the wrong hours. Not to mention warranty administrators not booking warranty repairs correctly. Who gets punished for these mistakes?? Guess who haha

EVERYTHING affects the flat rate tech. We’re expected to do all of the foot work of everyone else’s jobs while also doing our work. Catching and fixing everyone else’s mistakes so that we can make sure we get paid and not have to waste any time when their fuck ups fuck everything else up.

tech_ebf55311 and not only are we expected to help other people to do our job, we are expected to help people do their own jobs too. for example I often end up helping my parts department order all the right parts for a job at an aftermarket shop and figuring out what parts they are referring to over the phone or emails and such. that's not even mentioning repairs around the shop, like fixing an oil pump that broke, programming door openers, maintaining shop tools (presses, A/C machines, etc.)

Curious what everyone out in the flat rate world gets for Tires and Alignments. Honda dealer- we get 1hr for tires, and upper management just lowered Alignments from 1hr to 0.8hrs.

We don’t stock anything in parts. After waiting a week for approval from a service writer we have to wait 3 days to a week for parts to arrive If we’re lucky enough for the parts not to be on back order. Many times we receive the wrong part if we don’t hold their hand through the process of ordering the parts

tech_e4bf3710 thats crazy dude. we get 1.2 for tires and 1.0 for alignments. Alignments were dropped from 1.2 about 6 months ago.

Tech_00 Im a dealer tech, for the most part the only thing that affects me as a technician is my foreman. This is the beginning of the 3rd week that he’s sitting in his office and ignoring most of us. He asks us for our holds box, and then reads my message and doesn’t reply. If I work on the wrong thing he gets upset, if he sees me not working or on my phone he gets upset. I’ve been trying to avoid hurting his feelings (he’s almost 40) until I can find a job. I’m afraid that when I put my 2 week notice in, they are going to let me go, as they’ve done with plenty other techs. I almost want to get out of this industry because this is just terrible management. And at a corporate dealer, I can’t do anything unless I get 5-6 other techs to send an email with me
